Life is Sweet When There’s a Snow Day
The first snow day of the year is always exciting. I love the privilege of telling my children school is off for the day-it’s a snow day! How often, do we as parents, get to be the harbinger of excellent news? As they roll over and go back to sleep with happy smiles, we are smiling too. That is, for the first day.
As New Englanders, it is seldom this event occurs only once, though some of the joy begins to wain as the kids seem to stay locked inside for days as a time. So knowing that January, February and March are peak snow day time, get prepared. Life is Sweet has some suggestions to make a snow day shine!
Snow days are going to happen, so make sure you’ve got provisions on hand. You’ll want warm drinks, maybe popcorn and if you want the honor of “Thanks Mom (or Dad)!” bestowed upon you, a secret stash of candy to bring out for movie watching.
At Life is Sweet you can make a custom mix perfect for your family. We are big on dark chocolates nonpareils, sour gummies, chocolate covered espresso beans and any flavor jelly bean. Your family is more the hard caramels, M&M and Spree type? No problem. We’ve got you covered and you get to take “hero for the day” status in your household!
Sure it’s snowy or icy, but even a little time outside makes it so much more pleasant to come in and get warm with a cup of hot cocoa. Besides, there’s nothing like getting outside in the snow to bring out the inner child. So take an hour or so and enjoy sledding, build a snow man or fort, have a snowball fight or just go out and take care of snow removal (the perfect activity for a teen who’s “too cool” for the other stuff).
When you come in, have a cup of hot cocoa. At Life is Sweet we have cocoa cones you can buy that come complete with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows in individual servings. Make it something special and add some whipped cream and crushed peppermint on top-warming and refreshing. Yum!
Here at Life is Sweet we recognize childhood is an all too brief! A snow day makes your child a captive audience. Break out the board games you loved as a child and introduce your child to reasoning in a game of Clue or luck in a game of Yahtzee or capitalism in a game of Monopoly. Extra points if you’ve squirreled away a box of chocolates to break out for snow day fun!
Savor the Day
Most of all embrace your own inner child and savor a snow day at home. Don’t think about the traffic the next day or how much work you have to make up. Live in the moment and make this a wonderful snow day for your kids and yourself! Remember when you were young and a snow day felt like a gift? At day’s end, think about the best parts of your snow day. And if you have your hot cocoa with a piece of chocolate you’ve saved just for yourself, we won’t tell a soul. It will be our secret!
Life is short…so make it sweet.
